The Internet has always been sacred ground to individuals who like to communicate with their friends and acquaintances in private. Some government officials are declaring that these limitations are unacceptable though, because they believe the enemy uses these networks to transmit vital information about their plots. For this reason, some government officials believe the companies that own these networks should have to develop back doors in order to give complete access to government organizations.

Historically, there have been many instances of court orders being placed on companies to develop a technology that will give agencies access to encrypted information. There are many problems that are created by this process though. If these communication companies continue to build back doors, or if they even build these back doors while they construct the networks in the first place, it is likely that hackers will have an easy way to access any information they want on these networks. Also, these companies face tremendous costs and logistical security problems when they open these back doors for the government to use.

High ranking employees in the technologies industry believe that the opening of these back doors will pose multiple problems for customers and the communications companies. If these back doors are opened, not only will the government have access to the encrypted information, but hackers will potentially have easy access to this information as well. Not only that, but these companies will no longer be able to make promises about absolute security to their customers if they willingly let third parties view the information that is being transmitted over their networks.

Now that this information about the security of these networks has come to light, some communications customers are concerned about the security of these networks. If the government continues to have its way, it is likely that no customers will feel safe while transmitting important information through these channels. If this ever occurs, it is likely that the Internet could face some sort of meltdown as consumers start using other forms of communication.

Once consumers can no longer access secure networks, they will no longer give these corporations the capital they need to expand their operations and develop new features and programs. For this reason, many people believe Internet wiretapping will be the death of Internet privacy. Consumers who need to use communication portals that are completely secure can always utilize third party programs and systems that are not regulated or susceptible to the requirements of government organizations though. Communications networks might be hurt by the intrusive attitude of governments, but consumers will always have a way to sneak by their all seeing eye.
