Raccoons And Their Habits

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

The wooly little animal with the noticeable black bandit mask is known as the raccoon. They have a ring tail which is fluffy and has four to six rings on it. Their fur is a grayish brown with black markings, and is soft and luxurious.

They grow to be around 2.5 feet long and weigh roughly 12-16 pounds but can be up to 30 pounds. Most raccoons live to become about 5 to 6 years of age but some have been known to live for 15 years.

Raccoons walk a lot like humans and bears walk, which is called the heel to toe style. They are native to North and South America. The raccoons? track are similar to a small human hand.

The Algonquin word, ?arakun?, means ?one who scratches with his hands?. This is where the raccoon got its name. They are also called ?coons?.

Kits, which are baby raccoons, are born around two months after the parents mate. Normally the mother will have 1-6 kits. The kits will stay in a high tree hole and will then move to lower ground where they will start to learn how to hunt and explore. Raccoons are known to live in fissures in rocks, burrows, hollow trees, and caves. You will usually find water close by.

Raccoons will consume just about anything, including frogs, mice, insects, berries, crayfish, fresh water mussels, birds? eggs, and crops grown in human gardens. A waste container is a spot that a raccoon loves to explore to find food. They have long fingers which permit them to open such things as doors and rubbish cans.

A raccoon?s presence in a garden can be noticed when corn stalks are pushed over. They will stand against a corn stalk to knock it down and then eat the ears whilst the stalk is lying on the ground. It is not unusual for a raccoon to wash its food before eating it.

When a raccoon is cornered it frequently attempts to escape by finding a tree or turning to bay in water where they are known to drown predators. Their main predators are humans or dogs. The raccoon is hunted mainly at night. Their pelts are valued to create sumptuous coats, hats, and mittens. Their meat is also valued by some individuals.

Raccoons are very social animals, which leaves them liable to communicable illnesses such as distemper and rabies, the later of which may get transmitted to humans. If a raccoon is seen acting strangely, particularly in day light hours, they should not be approached because this is often a sign that something is not right with the animal.

Pesky raccoons may be caught in no-kill, cage traps and transported to other areas. But be careful, the same trap that will catch a raccoon will also catch a skunk. The best way to keep raccoons away is to be sure there is no food lying about to attract them, this includes dog and cat food.

A raccoon can become a good pet but they do need a lot of time and patience. One ought to always keep in mind that they are wild animals and one should remain cautious at all times.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many of subjects, but is now concerned with distemper in raccoons. If you want to know more, please go to our site at Distemper Vaccines

What Is Formula Drifting?

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Unless you are a aficionado of racing cars, there is a decent chance that you have not heard of Formula D Racing. Formula D has its adherents of course, but it is still not as commonly known as the other types of racing like Formula One, Drag Car Racing, NASCAR or Cross Country Rallying. This is partly because it is a fairly new form of car racing.

Every year the national television coverage is a bit more extensive, yet it is taking a long time to prise some of the airtime away from the more traditional sports. Once you have seen a competition though, the likelihood is that you will become hooked on this exciting sport that they have Christened Formula D.

The ‘D’ in Formula D stands for ‘drifting’ which is another name given to the sport. Drifting refers to the angle of the car with reference to the sides of the road at any given moment. Drifting through bends allows the car to maintain its highest possible speed in a bend. Drifting sounds natural and therefore commonplace, yet it is actually very hard to do well.

Drifting takes skill and lots of practice. Drivers are judged in part on their talent at drifting. There are in fact two facets of Formula D or two kinds of drifting. There are the traditional style qualifying runs but there are also tandem battles. Qualifying runs involve the driver racing solo flat out against the clock, drifting as necessary to sustain the highest speed possible.

However, tandem runs involve two car drivers who are being judged on their skills at outwitting the other driver. The judges are looking for the line of drift, the speed of the cars, overtaking, crashes and much more. Driving in the tandem runs definitely sorts the men out from the boys.

Formula Drifting grew up a little chaotically, yet there have been major attempts to control it. At the moment the Formula Drift Championship is the only professional drifting championship that is authorized by SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Pro Racing in the United States, although there are often amateur local drifting competitions held unofficially.

There needs to be more officially authorized races so that standards are maintained and every driver follows the same set of rules. This is the only way that the television channels will pick up on drifting and help advertise it more. Drifting is new to the United States, but the first Drifting Races took place in 2004, so not all that long ago anyway. It is still very much a new sport.

At the moment the country where Formula D is most well-liked is Japan, but that is likely to change when the American media gets to grips with Drifting. At the moment it is still not that easy to watch drifting activities unless you live in California, Washington, Georgia and New Jersey and it is still not simple to watch it on TV unless you have G4TechTV, which is commonly referred to as G4.

Simple Pointers For Woodworking Projects

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

There are a number of places you can look if you are searching for help or advice on a wood working project. One of the best pointers when searching for pointers, is to ask a retired carpenter in your neighbourhood. Many retirees miss their career and also miss the days when there were apprentices to whom they could pass on their skills.

You could learn a lot from a retired carpenter, because anyone who is retiring now would still have done a proper, old-fashioned apprenticeship, by which I mean tech college, day release from college then then work experience.

After leaving tech, gaining a diploma and finding a position, the young carpenter would do maybe a year or two in the machine shop before being permitted to go out on site to learn how to fit what he or she had made, under the supervision of a skilled carpenter.

That was a very rounded apprenticeship, but it all began to alter in most countries in the Nineties or even in the mid-Eighties. I am not decrying ‘contemporary’ apprenticeships, but nowadays individuals appear to be more specialized than they used to be. If you are searching for help or advice on a wood working project, look for a retiree – they will have more time anyway.

If you would like to make something, but you are inexperienced, get a wood working plan. You might think that you do not have need of one to only create a table with benches or a bird table and perhaps you do not, but it is better to get into the habit of learning how to read and decipher simple plans first, so that once you move onto harder projects, you can understand the plans.

If you are concerned about the costs, there is no need. You can get hold of fairly decent plans for wood working projects free on the Net or you can acquire really top-notch plans for only a couple of pence each, particularly if you buy a CD with thousands of different plans on it.

The difference between a decent plan and a mediocre one is enormous. A decent plan will advise on the type of timber to use and the best tools to do the work well. It may even give you an idea of the level of skill needed to make the article and an notion of the cost too, although the usefulness of this aspect is eroded by time.

So, what type of items can a novice start constructing? Well, a bird table is a good starting place and so is a garden table and two benches. In general, all garden furniture is a decent place to start, because, let us be frank, if it is a bit rough, it does not matter. It is a good manner of getting experience without attracting too much criticism.

Indoor stuff is a different kettle of fish, but you could try a jewelery box or a wine rack. If you want to learn marquetry or inlaying, make a chess board out of timbers of two different colours, say, beech and mahogany. They look really lovely!

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with a favourite subject, wine rack plans. If you are interested in Desk Woodworking Plans, please click through to our site, where we have 14,000 wood working plans.

Doing Charity Work In Swimwear

Friday, April 27th, 2012

If you are interested in charity work, then you will realise how hard it is to come up with new ideas for helping people or collecting money, especially if you are on ‘the committee’.

Not everybody agrees with charity work, imagining that governments should take on the function of charity worker, but no one can deny that governments are not doing enough, so people and charitable associations have to step in.

As a supporter or as a charity worker, you obviously have the right to choose whom you support. A hundred years ago, middle class charity workers attempted to help the local poor; then after the Second World War, charities started searching further afield and Africa and other places became the focus of their assistance.

Nowadays, the cycle has gone full circle for a lot of people and they are beginning to look to the local underprivileged again. The old expression that ‘Charity Begins At Home’ appears to be ringing true with people again. So what could you do to assist the local underprivileged?

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, USA, has come up with a fresh concept. They discovered that numerous individuals bought at least one swimming costume every year. Those individuals might keep them until the next year, if they particularly liked them, but they would still buy a new swimming suit every year.

The thing is, that people hang onto their old swimming costumes until one day, they find them at the back of the draw and it occurs to them to toss them out. Sometimes, for ladies, the top half will break – a strap or the clasp – and they are left with a pair of bottoms. Men are inclined to hang onto their bathers for years.

At the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, they resolved to begin a campaign to collect all the old swimming costumes, jumble them all up and invite parents and kids in to choose a ‘new’ swimming costume.

Many of the kids that turned up, especially the girls, had never had a swimming costume before – they had always worn cut down jeans and a t-shirt.

Now, there are several ways you could go about this, once you have collected your boxes of swimming costumes. You can attempt to make sets for girls – tops and bottoms that match – or you can simply throw them all together and let individuals have the fun of matching up a two article swimming costume.

If you are trying to raise money for something like school books or a new church roof, then you could make a fixed price per swim suit. However, if you are attempting to attract adults or kids to your establishment – say a Sunday School or a local community centre – you could place a promotional leaflet in with each costume when it is bagged.

You could also have volunteers standing about prepared to give fashion advice or you could sell tea or coffee and homemade cakes. Whichever way you look at it, this is a very clever idea for helping people acquire an affordable/free swimming costume and get your concept over.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on several topics, but is now involved with Speedo Swimming Costumes. If you would like to know more, please visit our web site at Swimwear For Big Busts.

Using A Wooden Closet Organizer To Full Advantage

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Closet organizers permit you to make the most of the room within your closet or wardrobe. Not only that, but it also permits you to arrange your closet’s contents so that they are easily retrievable. A closet organizer allows you to arrange your shoes together, your belts together and to organize all your other accessories. There is no doubt that a closet organizer is a good idea, the only choice left is whether you make or buy your closet organizer.

The best closet organizer will fit your closet snugly, perfectly. This makes buying one the worse option, so if you are at all practical, the better choice is to make your own closet organizer to suit your closet precisely. There is of course, one other choice, you could have it made for you, but that is the most costly option.

If you come to a decision to make your organizer yourself, the simplest thing to do is to get hold of a good set of woodworking plans. The wood working plans will show an exploded diagram of the closet organizer. Therefore, if your closet is not the same size as the one in the drawing, you will have to adjust the dimensions in the drawings.

This is not so hard, you will just have to work out the ratio of the closet organizer in the drawings to the size of your own closet. For example if the closet in the plans is four feet wide but your closet is six feet wide, you will need to enlarge the dimensions in the drawings by 50%. Likewise for the depth of the closet.

If you make a decision to have the organizer made up for you, you will need to specify the wood to be used and the finish to be applied to it. These decisions will also have to be made if you choose to make your organizer yourself. If you do , it is best for you to get all the bits and pieces together that you will require before you start construction.

Another matter is what you want the organizer to hold. This could differ depending on your sex. Women tend to have more accessories, men tend to have more socks. Therefore, a woman’s closet organizer should have lots of small drawers, whereas a man’s may only have a few of them.

The wood you use to construct the organizer from should go with the colour and kind of timber already used in the fabrication of the wardrobe or closet itself. It is better if they match up. There really is little point in investing in a hand-made closet organizer made from mahogany and beautifully stained, if the wardrobe itself is made from compressed wood chippings.

Day Spas And Beauty Salons

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Are you feeling a bit jaded? A bit run-down or even worn out? Do you feel like you ought to have a holiday, yet you do not have the time or do not have the money just now? Well, a trip to a day spa might be the answer. Most women have been to a beauty salon and so have some men, yet fewer individuals of both sexes have been to a day spa.

A day spa is an extended version of a beauty salon. The extra amenities usually involve water in some way or oil – something liquid. However, day spas resemble beauty salons in that they usually offer all of the treatments that a beauty salon offers and pampering is the prime object.

It is the pampering as much as anything that can wash your cares away for a while and make you feel as if you have recently come back from a short vacation. Four hours at a day spa can be more relaxing (and far better for you) than a weekend away on the razzle.

If you have never been to a spa before, it is worth doing a local search on the computer and seeing what web sites come up. A good site should list the treatments that they offer, their prices and any package offers (often called day packages). It ought to also mention whether you need to book up or merely call in.

The prices may appear outrageous at first, but it is worth checking how long the procedure takes and whether there are any special preparations or oils involved, because they may be costly. Day packages can reduce the price of a number of related treatments quite significantly. If you still find it costly, maybe you could plan a visit for a couple of weeks in advance.

Something else that you should factor in whilst thinking about day spas and costs is the tranquility. Most spas have strict rules concerning noise. So, no small children, no shouting, no cell phones or pagers, no radios or Walkmen, just soothing ambient music. Everything in a day spa is meant to make you feel pampered, cared for, less stressed and much more relaxed.

So what services can you expect to find at a day spa? Well, everything that you would expect to find at a beauty salon for a start off, so that includes manicure, pedicures, hair styling, facials and make-up or make-overs.

However, a spa should also provide massages of various types like a full body massage, an oil massage, a Thai massage, a foot massage and maybe others too. They may also have a steam box or a sauna and / or Turkish Baths, mud wraps, herbal wraps, mud baths and even flotation chambers. Lots of spas offer aroma therapy and offer complimentary healthy drinks like fruit and vegetable juices too. Some may even have a swimming pool as well.

Detoxes feature fairly often at most spas and some may offer colonic irrigation too. However, the best value for money are the day packages or one-off specials, which permit you to combine a number of treatments for one discounted payment.

Buying A Hot Tub Spa

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

For most individuals, purchasing a hot tub spa, also known as a gazebo, a hot spa or a Jacuzzi, is a first time event. This makes it quite a daunting undertaking, because they are not cheap and there are numerous variables.

You have to do research on the different types of jets, the power of the pump that is best for you, the location, whether to put a deck around it or not et cetera, et cetera. In this piece, we will take a look at a few of these points to make purchasing a hot tub easier for you.

The first thing to think about is size. This usually depends on two items: where you are going to put the hot tub and how many individuals are going to be using it at a time. If you are hoping to situate it above the ground floor inside your home, you will have to check the weight of the spa whilst it is full of water and people to see whether your floor will take that weight without reinforcement. If the climate is decent where you live, the garden is the best place to put it.

The next deliberation is cost. There is a vast choice of hot tubs and a wide span of prices as well. If you find that the cost of a new hot tub is simply out of your range, what about purchasing a second hand one?

There is quite a large second hand market in Jacuzzis because hotels, health spas and some home owners have to renew their models. You may get lucky enough to find rather a luxurious second hand model for less than the price of a new cheap one. Ask at a local installer’s for details.

The next thing is the material that the actual tub is made from. This is not inevitably the same as the housing or cabinet that goes around the tub. Traditional-style hot tubs are made from local hardwoods such as cedar, oak, redwood or teak, but they are heavy and leak a little.

Modern materials used are a mixture of plastic and fibreglass moulded into comfortable seating arrangements. They are lighter and do not leak (or should not).

Then you can think about the housing. Is the hot tub going to be on its own somewhere or is it going to be built in? if you are going to build it in, what are you going to build it into? A deck? Hardwood, softwood, concrete and tiles?

Then there is the general maintenance of the tub. This is not difficult but it is essential, so when you are building your tub into something, remember that you will need access to various parts of it. Read the manual of the tub that you buy to learn which parts will need maintenance and cleaning.

Normally, this involves cleaning the jets, adding chemicals to the water, renewing filters and perhaps renewing a gasket on the pump, which could be assigned to an engineer in an annual service deal.

Wood Working Projects For Teens

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

It is enormously therapeutic to be occupied with a wood working project. If you are not a carpenter by trade, it is very relaxing to come home from whatever you do, but especially if you are an office worker, and make something with your hands. Woodworking projects are pleasurable and rewarding and after the project is finished, you have something that is functional or and decorative, which you can even sell if you want to. So why should we not encourage our children to take on wood working projects from an early age too?

Having said that many wood working tools are sharp and dangerous, so the children would have to be supervised at least until they showed the right level of competency and regard for the tools. Furthermore, the projects would have to be specially selected to match their increasing level of skill.

The best idea would probably be if a grown up were to be occupied with his or her wood working project and the child or children were hard at it with theirs at the same time in the same room. In this way, the child could be helped with and taught about potentially hazardous machinery and tools. They could be helped and taught at the same time.

What is an suitable age to start? Well, many schools begin teaching woodwork at about 12 years of age, but you know how grown-up your child is better than anyone. You could hold your ‘wood working classes’ on the weekend or during the school’s annual holidays. Children often get fed up and fidgety in the long summer break, so a couple of simple wood working projects would keep them busy.

Wood working projects for kids should be comparatively simple but also be practical, say, a bird table with a little house on it. Or a dog kennel or a stool. They could make a set of draughts (checkers), a board and a box to put the pieces in. A pencil box with a sliding top, a letter box or a herbs and spices rack.

There are loads of wood working projects that are suitable for children. Ask them what they would like to make, but it might be better to ask them to pick from a list that you have got ready, otherwise they may decide on a woodworking project that is out of their limit and become downhearted when you disallow it.

If you yourself are not skillful at wood working, you may find it useful to look up a collection of wood working projects and select from this catalogue. You can get books of projects and I am sure that your library has some also, but there are specialist web sites that have thousands and thousands of woodworking plans for download. This is probably the best way to go about selecting suitable wood working projects for kids.

A good set of wood working plans will contain an exploded diagram of the item to be made, a narrative explaining the flow of the work and all the measurements you will need. These wood working project plans might also give you a difficulty rating and suggest which tools you will need to finish the wood working project as well.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with a favourite subject, bench woodworking plans. If you are interested in Desk Woodworking Plans, please click through to our site, where we have 14,000 wood working plans.

Accessories For Above-Ground Swimming Pools

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Above-ground pools are the most used types of pools for home-owners, probably for reasons of space and price. Above-ground swimming pools can still be quite substantial, it just depends whether you buy a kit or not and which sort of kit you do purchase.

The best above ground kits are made from a drawing by a skilled carpenter and are surrounded by decking. Other types are like large plastic bags suspended within a metal frame or substantial fibreglass pools supported on all sides by a wall.

However, whichever type of garden pool you have, you will know that they are costly to maintain, so I dare say that you would like to get each ounce of pleasure out of it that you can. One of the best ways of encouraging people to use the pool more frequently is to stock it with toys and accessories. The young and old alike enjoy using water or poolside toys

The good news is that there are lots of pool toys that do not cost much, but there are also those that are expensive as well. The inexpensive pool toys include things such as beach balls, rubber rings, lidos, volley ball nets, water polo nets, flippers, masks, snorkels and basket ball hoops; while the expensive ones are things like water slides, water spas and diving boards.

Other objects that make life in the pool more enjoyable are various kinds of floating furniture. You can get floating loungers, floating seats and floating tables. Some brands of these items of floating furniture are strong enough to double as poolside furniture, but be careful because they are not all strong enough to provide support on land.

Other pool side accessories that are certainly necessary are safety apparatus such as life-rings, a waterproof torch and a rope. A pool cover comes in handy to prevent leaves falling in and for over-wintering your equipment. You will also require at least one ladder to get up to the pool and one to get out of the water. Although these are usually supplied with the pool, you may like another set.

As I stated above, the best above ground pools are surrounded by a deck. This deck gives the pool more support if it is a kit or it allows you to use every inch of space that you can allot to your pool, if you get a carpenter in to make you a pool and deck.

You can have it fitted into a sunny or shady corner of your garden as a feature to be used as and when, or you could make it more prominent for use every day. Even if it is a little too chilly or late to use the pool it is refreshing and revitalising to sit on the deck at the poolside, read a book and sip a favourite drink.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on various topics, but is currently concerned with Speedo Swimming Costumes. If you would like to kcurrently more, please visit our website at Swimwear For Big Busts.

A Typical Day At Tthe Beach For A Muslim Family

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

The experiences and ways of spending leisure time vary across the religions. Places, foods, and clothes differ across cultures and religions. So, a day at the beach for a Muslim family is distinct from that of those individuals belonging to other religions. In Islam, it is compulsory for a woman to dress modestly without exposing her beauty.

When an average Muslim family plans to go to a beach, the manner of spending that day is totally different from a non-Muslim family. Muslim women cannot opt to wear bathing costumes which expose their bodies.

The ways of enjoyment vary between cultures and religions. Muslim women also enjoy a day at the beach but their way of enjoyment is not the same.

They may not laze around in the sun in two-piece suits exposing their bodies. They have to plan for their journey to pools and beaches differently. A Muslim family spends time at the beach joyfully while taking notice of the doctrines and limitations preached by Islam.

They prepare some food to eat at the beach. Usually, Muslims are family-oriented individuals and they plan to go to leisure places with their whole family. Children play different games at the beach, while the women spend most of their time watching their family swimming in the water or offering food.

There is no limitation on Muslim women swimming too. The biggest duty for a Muslim woman is to wear very humble clothing. They avoid pomp and show in their dressing. There are some criteria which the swimwear of a Muslim woman ought to meet.

The first principle is to wear a three piece swimming suit covering all of the body including the head. Just face, hands and the feet may be exposed. These days, there are very stylish and good quality head covers available in the market.

The second vital principle is to pick swimwear which is made of such a cloth that does not stick to the body if it is wet. The swimwear should not highlight the body shape of the Muslim lady.

The cloth of the swimwear ought to not absorb much water so it should be water repellent to keep it light in weight. Muslim women generally prefer to wear bathing costumes manufactured of nylon or polyester. Wearing such clothing has a double advantage. Such garments should neither stick to the body nor hinder movement in the water.

A Muslim woman also likes swimming whilst following religious values and traditions. A trip to a beach always brings excitement to the life of a Muslim family. A day at the beach for a Muslim family is not as dull and dowdy as it seems.

Muslims choose their own manner of having fun and diligently sort out ways of spending their free time.

It may be said undoubtedly that a Muslim family has to follow some limitations and that their trip to a beach is not free from many religious and cultural cares. Muslims do their best by pre-arranging things to make their visit to the beach as joyful as possible.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article, writes on various topics, but is currently concerned with swimwear for muslim women. If you would like to kcurrently more, please visit our web site at Swimwear For Big Busts.
