Halo 3: The Spectacle

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Recently while surfing the Internet for information on the Halo 3 weapons cheats, I came across a number of what-if scenarios? What if Master Chief took on different famous characters from movies, comic books, and legends? Here is a list of some of these battles and my take on the result.

While it is technically not a Halo 3 weapon cheat, the contest between Master Chief versus Robocop would be interesting. According to the information on the Internet both have some similarities. They’re both human, they’ve both been enhanced, they both have fantastic armour and they are both experienced combatants. Most respondents thought that Master Chief would defeat Robocop, but let’s face facts here, Master Chief can be put down with a hand-gun, whereas Robocop kept on going after being blown up at a fuel station. The victor has to be Robocop.

If Master Chief battled with the next combatant he would do well to have a Halo 3 weapon cheat. The next is MacGyver. Master Chief has a lot going for him. He is proficient with a variety of weapons; he has that amazing armour; he has some incredible vehicles at his disposal; he’s a Clint Eastwood type loner and he can repair himself. However, in short, MacGyver is brain over brawn. It would probably boil down to the same considerations in a fight between Batman and Superman. However, if it’s a closed arena where it’s man versus man, Master Chief will win. But put this battle in the real world with Swiss army knives and duct tape at his disposal, and MacGyver’s going to wipe the floor with our futuristic pal.

So far Master Chief is 2-0 down, it’s beginning to look like he could definitely use a Halo 3 weapon cheat. But we’ll give him another go. This time it’s Master Chief versus Terminator. We already know Master Chief’s powers, the Terminator’s consist of an ability to master every weapon, relentless willpower, indefatigability, amazing focus to kill his prey. It all comes down to the Spartan laser weapon. As one voter indicated, if Master Chief can destroy vehicles with this weapon he can certainly put a pretty big hole in the Terminator too.

Let’s have one more battle before Master Chief finds his Halo 3 weapon cheat. What can he do against Boba Fett from Star Wars? The only differences between Master Chief and Boba Fett are that Boba has no shields, owns his own ship and has a jet pack.

Many people believe Star Wars comes out on top in this battle, but Master Chief’s weapons are much more powerful than those owned by the bounty hunter. This one makes it two all, Master Chief goes 50-50.

So, those are the results. In this tiny poll that we read on the Internet, Master Chief is your average kind of super hero, who is not sure to win every bout, unless he finds his weapon cheats or the story writers want him to, that is.

Halo 3 Free Download

Friday, October 16th, 2009

The release of Halo 3 was fervently anticipated, as the game was the third in the original three-part series of the Halo games. Therefore, the Halo 3 trial download was one of the most frequently downloaded video game demos in the history of the Xbox 360. But what many people don’t remember is that the Halo 3 trial download helped make another game ie Crackdown.

But what does the Halo 3 trial download have to do with any other video game? Well, it has a great deal to do with the distribution and marketing effort for a game that was originally planned for playing on the Xbox system. Microsoft had become concerned that Crackdown would not sell well.

Therefore, they used a marketing gimmick, the one of bundling Crackdown with an access code for the Halo 3 trial download. And it worked a treat in that Crackdown sold 1.5 million copies within the first six months of its release. Those aren’t Halo 3 numbers, which sold 8.1 million copies in slightly over a year, but for a lesser well-known game that’s absolutely fantastic.

Microsoft had turned to the Halo 3 trial download tactic because of poor opinions about the game from the game testers. They found the nonlinear nature of the game off-putting, often leaving them wondering what they were meant to be doing next.

As a result of this, the powers that be thought that something had to be done or the game would be a dud. It may appear dodgy practice at first to attempt to push sales of a game that’s expected to be unpopular, but in retrospect people like the game and it was a good thing that they were able to get the chance to play it.

In Crackdown, and that includes the one bundled with the Halo 3 trial download, people play the role of an agent who is detailed to beat the kingpins or leaders of different gangs. To do this they use some superhuman powers such as super strength and super fitness. In order to gain these powers, players have to accumulate experience by defeating foes who then release experience orbs. The interesting idea in the system was that the sort of orbs released depended on the method in which the agent killed the enemy. For example, a firearms orb appears if the enemy was wiped out with a gun.

So, while at first sight this game bundled with the Halo 3 free download seems to be nothing but a veiled marketing gimmick, in reality it exposed gamers to a fascinating gameplay world.

Halo 3 Screenshots

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

When a video game series is as wildly famous as the Halo set is (which includes Halo 3, of course) then the result is going to be many screenshots takes. This piece focuses on some of the weird and wonderful Halo 3 screenshots.

Before mentioning the Halo 3 screenshots specifically, let’s take a look at the numbers that generate all of this media. Over 9 million copies of Halo 3 have been sold to date. That means that if every person who bought the game plays for only 10 hours, there are more than 90 million hours of game time from which to choose screen shots. A great deal can happen in 90 million hours, and with all the image-uploading websites available to people, loads of it has been uploaded.

One of the things in Halo 3 that has frequently been documented in Halo 3 screenshots is the identity of Master Chief or more specifically, what his face looks like. If you use Google to look up the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots, you’ll find a picture of Master Chief lying dead on the ground, clearly not showing a face inside his helmet. This explains why we never see his face, say many people, because he does not actually have one.

Another one of the Halo 3 screenshots featuring in the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots is the one of a Marine getting hammered on a floodgate. Someone posted that it looked a lot like Han Solo when he was frozen in Carbonite. And do you know what? – they’re absolutely right.

The makers of Halo 3 wanted to make it much easier for people to take Halo 3 screenshots and to share them on the Internet. To accomplish this they created a saved films feature right inside the game. This feature permits players to slow down the action, or even to freeze it, change the camera position and even move the camera around to get exactly the screenshot they want to have. Generally speaking, the ‘Save Films’ feature records all the action that occurs in the game, so it can later be converted into videos are screenshots.

Another feature that has a little bit to do with Halo 3 screenshots in the ‘Save Films’ feature, is the viewing of previously saved films. You see, the saves are not just images or video, they’re real game data. This means two things: 1] the file size is pretty small and 2] the whole game can be watched from different angles on the Xbox 360.

This means to say that a player could watch a game again and again, finding new things in new places every time they watch it. That’s a great deal better than plain Halo 3 screenshots.

When Was Halo 3 Released?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

On May 15, 2007 the news was published ” the Halo 3 release date would be September 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. Halo 3 marked the third in a wildly popular series for the Xbox 360 called Halo. According to the vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, Halo 3′s publication was more than just a video game release, it was the biggest entertainment event of the year. He may just have been right.

The full history of Halo 3 really has to start with the release of the first game in the series ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’. In November, 2001, when Halo was first published, game consoles were something of a joke as one-person shoot-em-up games. Yes, some games existed, but they didn’t have the popular communities that the PC games in the genre had.

That all changed with Halo, in which players could battle aliens on foot and in vehicles, in order to complete objectives, while trying to unravel the secret of the Halo. Halo pioneered limiting the number of weapons a player could carry to two, which in turn, meant forcing the player to take strategic decisions.

People waited for the release of Halo 3 with baited breath. They awaited the continuation of the one-person, shoot-em-up combat format that had been dominant in the two former versions of Halo. Microsoft calls it the ‘Golden Triangle of Halo’, which consists of gun-type weapons, grenades and others. In actuality, this was nothing new to one-person, shoot-em-up games, as it had existed since the very first Doom and even the predecessor to that game, Wolfenstein.

So, with all of that previous history, people were full of anticipation and excitement about the Halo 3 release date. How popular and welcome was the game? Well, before its release, 3.1 million copies were sold in advance orders and retailers thought that that was not enough.

The game took over $300 million gross in the United States in only its first week. Overall, it has sold over nine million copies worldwide and was the best-selling video game in the United States in 2007. Even the critics loved it, ranking it the seventh highest on the list of Xbox 360 all-time great games.

The Halo 3 release date, like the release date of many widely popular video games was almost like a holiday like Christmas or Easter. It leaves us with the question of what will happen in the realm of video games in the future?

Halo 3 Modification

Friday, July 24th, 2009

A Halo 3 mod is usually thought of as any software modification that alters the game play in the very popular video game for the Xbox 360, Halo 3. But the term also includes many other modifications, such as physical changes made to the Xbox 360 console to show everybody that you are a hard-core Halo 3 fanatic.

However, before someone can make a Halo 3 mod, they must have the proper tools, together with some technical expertise and knowledge. These tools would usually includes a number of pieces of software that allow people to de-construct, edit, and reconstruct Halo 3 files. It would also involve some hardware to allow the Xbox 360 hard drive to be uploaded into a PC and the files to be restored to that hard drive.

You have to do it this way, because the Xbox 360 is not a unit on which programs can be changed. In the past, the hardware developers, in this case Microsoft, made the tools available to those who paid the licensing fee. But as time passed, especially with Halo 3 mods, the public developed several tools and techniques to accomplish what needs to be done for modification.

A Halo 3 mod also includes, as stated earlier, physical changes to the Xbox 360 console. Some people, for example, remove the case and actually carve the words ‘Halo 3′ into it. They might also accompany this by painting the console red, blue or green to match the colour of the armour of the characters in the game.

However, it’s a pretty extreme way to say to the world – I like Halo 3 – because it could cause actual damage that renders the Xbox 360 unplayable. People often display their customized Xbox 360s on photo-sharing sites such as Flickr and when they go toattend live LAN events.

One of the things that people who are interested in the world of the Halo 3 mod try to focus on is that the mods should not be created for the purpose of cheating. Modifications are fun to get a new twist on Halo 3 play or a new feel for certain levels. But if they’re used to make the game easier for one person or team, they destroy the overall game for everyone.

One website where a person can find many a Halo 3 mod is H3mod.com. The site calls itself the ‘future of Halo modding’. It seems like a good place to begin if you want to learn about a Halo 3 mod.
