That said however, there’s really not too much that can actually go that wrong if you have a really simple bathroom design. One that’s easy to implement and is also easy on the wallet. Something else that you might want to think about is easy maintenance.

Of course, you could always go to the other extreme and find yourself taking away all your old junk and swapping them with state-of-the-art, easy to clean accessories instead.

Ideas For Interior Design

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Redecorating your house really isn’t that easy and it only becomes even less so when you become stumped for ideas. The only real way to get over this shortage of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have a cup of tea or coffee.

I’m not kidding, there’s no better way of getting a new perspective on things than taking a break from everything. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Once that you’re sitting down comfortably and are suitably relaxed, close your eyes and envision the room that you want to redecorate. Even if you are redecorate more than one room, it’s always a good idea to begin with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you begin your travel through the land of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pen so that you can jot down any inspirational ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, simply sit back and picture the room in your mind. Try to picture it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, first try to replace separate parts of your room or articles in it. This is always a good method of working. But, if you’ve still got a mental drought on interior design ideas, look through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least some basic ideas of what you can do to change the room.

The interior design catalogues don’t need to be anything more impressive than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing pages. Then again, nowadays you also get specialist stores which deal only with redecorating. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the lack of interior design ideas, and can probably get you started again.

These stores will have decorated sets of many designs, offering you a good impression of what your room could look like if you bought those materials. However, if you’re going to go to one of those shops, expect to spend some money, as no matter how much you try to keep a tight hand on your pocket, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This is not always a bad thing, but unless you watch out you could end up buying things you don’t really need and without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, it can prove to be disastrous. Don’t worry though, if you keep your goal in mind, you can go back home and make a start on redecorating your rooms the way you want to.

Furthermore, now that you’ve been able to get a few interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more fun too.

Decor for Teen Rooms

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, barring that, you could go in and do a good job yourself. But when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with a completely different kettle of fish.

True, you could go and ask them to clean up their rooms. And true, you could shout at them a little if you wanted to, and go and clean the room yourself. However, that’s when all hell breaks loose. Teen rooms are private places and not to be entered into lightly.

Let Heaven help the person who tries to clean up the mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you just had absolutely no right whatsoever to touch it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue and, you being the patient, loving mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and grubby, old shirt thing just don’t work well together and that you were just rescuing them from impending plague.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and scream, not to exaggerate, it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a great science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. And so ends the story, and you’re right back to square one.

Of course, one way that you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate. Teen rooms might be sanctities of peace for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That’s not to say that the room will be any cleaner once you’ve finished and they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll get to see the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are famously different when it comes to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from what you expected and what you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen wants black for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to compromise a little on your ideas no matter how silly their ideas are to you. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later on they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had had.

It is your duty as a parent to allow them these years in their lives that they can look back on with mock horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Wall Painting Ideas

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

So, here you are then, in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though because the previous owner was in a rush to sell and had been in the middle of renovating. But, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect opportunity to do your house up exactly the way you want it.

But now you need to decide where everything goes and what colours will suit your rooms, but you still don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly sort out your new keys and wander through your new house. The moment you step in through a door ideas hit you. That stylish standard lamp you bought a while ago would look fantastic over there, and you’re pretty sure that your existing couch set will fit in that other room. And you know that a mahogany table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really don’t have much of a clue about are wall painting ideas.

You definitely don’t want to just dab on a few coats of bland paint and be done with it. What you want is a masterpiece, something that you can look at with pride every time you see it. And, of course, you should be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for quite some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too domineering.

But where can you get some good wall painting ideas from, and how do you go about getting the wall painting done? There are a few ways that you could go about it. The easiest being if you have an artistic streak in you, then you could always get your wall painting ideas off the cuff, so to speak and paint the walls as you like. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very artistic and we are hesitant to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this case then, you will need some help.

You could start off by hiring a professional decorator to help you to decide which styles would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty stylish ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these options is suitable for you, you could just try going down to your local DIY shop with fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their help on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You may come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last suggestion, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my slightly quirky house. It reflects who I am just perfectly.

Working in interior design jobs can be an enjoyable and fruitful way for you to spend your time, and if you play your cards right, then there could be quite a lot of benefit to you.

If you want, you also have the choice of attending an interior design college or taking some interior design courses to further your interior design knowledge. This is also a good way for you to test the water before you get in too deep. An added plus with either of these options is that they can be accomplished with ease and shouldn’t present you with any problems.

Taking any of these courses will only enhance your innate ability and develop any talent you have in the field of interior designing. This in turn makes it easier for you to try for more interior design jobs by giving you a boost in confidence and knowledge, so that you’re better placed to face whatever comes your way.

The hardest part will be taking that all important first step of coming out your nice safe job to go out into the unknown world of bidding for interior design jobs. Kitchen Decorating

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

It’s a Saturday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to finish its various gurgles and noises so you can have that all important early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you look about your kitchen and notice a fleck of paint on the corner of the door. It had been there for years but you never really took any notice of it until now.

Your gaze continues to wander and your eye spots a patch of mildew seeping in under the sink, then you see the ugly brown colour that your ceiling has become right above where the cooker is.

The paint is slightly off colour, and the only papered wall is starting to look a bit outdated and faded. You take a fortifying sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that some kitchen decorating is needed.

Where do you start though? And how soon can you get started? Now that you’ve finally spotted all the little signs of decay that you had been quite successfully ignoring up until that day, you can’t wait to begin modest kitchen decorating plans.

That however is where the crunch comes. Just how modest do you want to keep your kitchen decorating project? Can you get away with sloshing a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the trouble of stripping the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out where that mildew stain might be headed.

Sure enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’ll probably do better, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs that you might have, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have those. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to smarten up your kitchen.

You may also want to think about replacing those old lace curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly ratty by now. So go ahead and splurge on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re at it you might want to think of buying a new set of tea towels as well. It doesn’t hurt to go the whole hog when you can.

And when you’ve eventually finished, you will be able to sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has landed you with a far better kitchen than you had ever hoped for.

A feeling of contentment rushes through you as you bring your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your efforts and labour.

Decorating Children’s Rooms

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

If you’re bored with the way your home looks one of the best things that you can do is to redecorate it. Not necessarily all at once of course, as this can lead to headache upon headache for you and is almost guaranteed to bring stress into your life when you really didn’t need it. However if you work room by room, your redecorating project will become that much easier and simpler to manage.

The next step is to decide which room you want to decorated first. It’s not always an easy choice to make, but it must be done nevertheless. How about starting by decorating the kids’ rooms first as this will lead to a general mood of satisfaction amongst them and can help you in the long run too.

Decorating kids rooms can be an enjoyable way to pass your time and also affords you the opportunity to bond with your children as well. There’s no better way to get close to your kids than by getting down to their level and talking about the things that interest them. Decorating their rooms might be the best way to do that.

But where do you begin? If you’ve more than one kid you need to be careful about whose room you’re going to decorate first, as things can get tense. Decorating kids rooms can be fraught with tension if you don’t handle it delicately, so I’ve found that the best way to deal with it is to toss a coin in the air and have the kids call out heads or tails.

This method might not work if you’ve got more than two children or more than two rooms to decorate, in which case I’d suggest you just get on with it and begin all the decorating at once instead of tackling it room by room.

At least it’s not the whole house and this way you promote happier feelings amongst the children with no one feeling that they have been slighted by having their room done last. What tends to happen in most cases when youre decorating the rooms with the kids help though is that more paint and stuff gets everywhere but where it’s intended. But then again that was part of the reason you decided to start by decorating kids rooms and perhaps even their play areas, wasn’t it.

You’ll be all the happier for at least starting on your decorating project and your kids will be happier for having their rooms redone too, not to mention the sheer fun you’ll be having while you’re busy doing all this. This isn’t of course to say, that decorating kids rooms isn’t hassle or stress free.

On the contrary, you’ll probably get a shedload more stress by the time you’ve finished, but at least you’ll have had the satisfaction of getting closer to your kids and seeing their rooms clean for at least one day before they get into them again.

If you are searching for more info on how to decorate kids’ rooms , then you really must go along to our website for more free ideas on Stylish Home Decor and more.

Decorating Ideas for Inside the Home

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

The bleak winter is getting to you and you’re mooching around trying to decide what to do with yourself. You’re snowbound and the only thing that you can think of doing is sitting in front of your fire, drinking hot chocolate and staring broodingly out of the window. The only thing with that is that you’ve already been doing just that for days now and you’ve have had enough of fires, hot chocolate and mooching.

Now you’re itching to do something different, so, you turn to the only comfort you have and switch on the TV. You’re instantly captivated by one of those numerous shows about how you can jazz up your home. You find yourself flooded with decorating ideas: ideas on both interior decor and exterior decor.

So, you finally find yourself captivated by a program that you would have dismissed earlier and jump out of your chair to fetch a pencil and notebook to note down all those great ideas. Before long, you’ve run out of room in your notebook and have to leave your comfortable chair to go fetch another one.

Before you get back to your chair, you’ve made a tour around your house and have seen many of the things that you’ve spent a lifetime trying to avoid – the cracks in the bedroom wall, the faint spot of mildew in the bathroom, the paint chipping off many of the walls.

The list is very long and could easily fill several notepads. Therefore, you sit down, and alongside your notes on various decorating ideas on interior design and general redecorating, you studiously note down all the little things that need repairing, renewing or refitting.

The list covers more than even your second notebook can hold but you decide to stop there, because it’s giving you writer’s cramp, besides you already have all the relevant facts to hand, so now you set about sorting them out into sections that you can easily carry out.

And that is not an easy job, when your decorating ideas, interior designs and room-by-room list of snags and flaws is all mixed up in one dismaying pile. So, you turn to the tried and true, ancient solution of sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by your notes in an attempt at finding some logical order for you to follow later.

When you eventually reach that sublime state of order, you sit back with a tired but happy countenance. The knowledge that you’ll now have enough decorating ideas and interior design plans and less spare time on your hands during those long hard months of winter, sends a rush of contentment running right through you. After all, there’s nothing like a job well done and the knowledge that next spring, your home will look nothing like its former shabby self.

South-western Home Decor

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you introduce it into your own home? Well, to begin with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its most famous traits. Southwestern home decor involves colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even unearth some useful kitchen accessories too.

If you’re thinking about introducing southwestern home decor into your home, first of all, you have to check whether it would fit in with your existing decor or whether it would clash horribly. Almost all southwestern home decor has bright, eye catching colours, as well as stunning designs and motifs.

So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these lovely pieces, you can do one of two things. First up, you could always just throw out all your old furniture and replace them with gorgeous pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match them carefully with your existing pieces.

Personally speaking, I would just love to replace everything I already have since there’s some wear, but in reality that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be way over my budget, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about waste. I’ve discovered that you can escape from your friends but not from your mother!

However, I’m also a little happy that I didn’t give into my first impulse and renovate all in a southwestern home decor style. Granted that it does look really nice, but sometimes I also like the serenity that some of my other pieces of furniture bring to in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the perfect solution and have instead resorted to buying one-off pieces that attract my attention and sprinkling my home with those instead.

And I have to admit that its made quite a difference in the appearance of my entire home. Expensive pieces of the more traditional furniture now rest quite comfortably with the more vibrant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve also got hold of a great throw rug for my bathroom floor along with a beautiful set of bathing towels. My kitchen has a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statue in prominent view.

Although all of this sounds a bit much, I’ve found that this is the easiest way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into my home, without going all out and renewing my whole house with southwestern decor and motifs.

After all, you only want to bring a dash of southwestern decor to your home, not the whole thing. Oh, and did I forget to mention the gorgeous tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just perfect.

Stylish Home Decorating In Black And White

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

When people begin thinking about living room decorating ideas and decorating their residence, whether it be one or two rooms or even the complete house, the first thing that usually springs to mind is ‘what colour’. Generally, people choose colours that they like or those which correspond with pieces of their existing furniture. When searching for living room decorating ideas, one idea which is perhaps too often overlooked is decorating with the two basic colours (or shades, to be accurate) ” black and white.

Black and white, when used in decorating shows style and creates drama. Top interior designers say that every room in the house could benefit by adding a touch of black. Black is a colour which anchors and stabilizes a room. Bringing sophistication, black is definitely a colour that demands attention. Living room decorating ideas for a home using black can include accessories such as light fixtures, trim or furniture. Black serves to bring definition to the focal points in a room. Black is just one of the colours that stands out or makes a statement, but it is definitely one of the most outspoken!

Decorating with the shades of black and white in your living room decorating ideas, provides a clean, fresh, elegant air to the atmosphere of the room. This combination can be used in any room in a house making it a sophisticated area. Black and white are frequently used in contemporary home decorating and often used to accent other colours in the French Country style. It may be hard to visualize but there are many ideas for decorating a home using combinations of only these two basic shades.

The floor is a great place to start when you’re having living room decorating ideas. Black and white vinyl tiles laid alternately make a beautiful chessboard pattern and gives a clean and elegant appearance. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white skirting boards is another beautiful idea for decorating a room. Laying white ceramic tiles with a black border or simply painting the floor black or white and using pattern stencils of the opposite colour for decoration is also really stunning. These all are great ideas for re-vamping a room.

Is there anything more perfect than white walls? Painting the walls white or even an off-white would make a perfect background for accessories such as shelving framed in black. Imagine that – stylish home decor! Elegant black window treatments or black shutters against a clean, crisp white wall would certainly create an aura of sophistication. Perhaps a glass-topped table with black iron trim and black chairs? These are great ideas for decorating a home using only black and white.

Imagine a bedroom decorated using only black and white – that would be lovely stylish home decor too. A black or white iron bed-frame, covered with a striped black and white duvet or eiderdown. The pillow cases could be either all black or all white and you could add throw cushions in the other colour.

A chunky leather black or white armchair in the corner would certainly accent the living room decorating ideas. Then you could have the white walls with a sophisticated piece of artwork, framed in black, hanging on it. That would surely add to the contemporary feel of your living room decorating ideas. Black furniture against the crisp white walls would look really neat and tidy and you could jazz it all up with accessories like pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases.

If you think the living room decorating ideas need a bit more colour to complete the look, maybe a throw or a cushion in a bold colour like red or gold on the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. There are many ways to decorate a room. However, discovering the one that suits you and those who live with you is very important. It’s nice to do something extreme and off-the-wall but remember you must be able to live with it for quite a while.
