This part is a common component in automobiles and machinery commonly used in agricultural, industrial, construction, mining and many other applications, as well. They are necessary whenever there is a need for a reduction or increase in speed or torque from a rotating power source to the output. It is also indispensable any time the angle or direction of rotation needs to be changed.

There are many things that can go wrong or cause a failure of this part. Yes, it may be easy to just throw it away and put in a new unit and be confident that one will perform, like new, for some time without need for worry about failure again. The part could have been refurbished to a like new condition for half the cost though. Sometimes all that may be needed is new bearings and seals. In that case it could be fixed for about one third the cost of a new unit.

Many of the parts like gears, shafts, pinions, tapers, and housings can be rebuilt or replaced when necessary. Gear teeth can be built up. Parts that cannot be repaired can often be fabricated at a lesser cost than buying new ones from the manufacturer. Only the best quality parts or materials should be used. Reputable suppliers will insure that. A warranty will be issued on the parts and work.

A full service shop will have access to everything they need, in house, and can complete the work quickly. These shops have their own production lines and understand how important it is to keep them working. They should make getting you back to work quickly a priority.

Tolerances will be checked and gear and bearing clearances adjusted to factory specifications. Many times minor repairs or simple maintenance like seal and bearing replacements will prevent a need for more expensive work later on, or possibly even replacement. Inspections will look for cracks or other signs of fatigue.

This can increase the horsepower of your machine and increase service life. Most machine shops doing this work use the most modern tools, the most up to date design standards, and the same manufacturing technologies the original manufacturer used. Completely new designs can be engineered and fabricated to address your specific use requirements.

Wear patters will be documented and inspection and analysis will reveal the probable cause of failure. The physical part can be modified or adjusted or advice may be offered regarding use and maintenance to prevent performance issues or repeated failures before they occur. This benefit it not available when the part is merely replaced.

Expect Gearbox repairs to extend the working life of this important component, saving your company out of pocket money and costly down time. It may even improve the machine’s performance. Inspections and analysis likely will pinpoint the cause of the failure and prevent future costly failures or replacements.

Monday, June 27th, 2011

It is the thing that makes your car move. Gearboxes are in the transmission and tell the car when to change gears. If it is not working properly, you may feel a hesitation when you try to accelerate and the gears do not engage. The mechanic who repairs your car’s engine may not be the right one to do your gearbox repairs. Check with them to see if they have experience in this are. If they do, they can determine what is wrong with it and fix it for you. Decide if having it repaired with be worth it. It can add years to the life of your car, but if it costs more than the car is worth, it may not be a good idea.

When you have a manual transmission, you need to push on the clutch so the gears can disengage and you can move to a higher or lower gear. If your car has an automatic transmission, you will not have a clutch that you can push. There is a hydraulic system that judges which gear your car should be in to match the engine speed. To change gears, the hydraulic system gauges the pressure of the fluids.

Unless you have experience repairing your own car, you might not want to try to repair it yourself. It can be complicated and very messy. It is usually best to find a professional who can fix it for you. There are many companies in the yellow pages, or online, that can help you. Get a reference from a friend to confirm that this is the right mechanic for you.

Check out the reputation of the garage you select to make sure they have a good track record with people you know. They will start with a test drive to determine there is a problem, then perform other tests to determine what needs to be repaired.

When the mechanic has determined the problem, get an estimate. Repairs can be very expensive. If you have questions about the accuracy of their decision, get a second opinion. Also look into rebuilt transmissions, they may be less expensive than getting yours fixed.

After taking the transmission apart, and looking at the fluid for any metal filings, your mechanic will be able to tell you what is wrong. Any worn or broken parts will need to be replaced. They should have open and honest communications with you.

Experienced mechanics, who are familiar with your car model, can get the repair done quickly and efficiently. They will find the best solution for you and repair the necessary parts. There are times when more than just a broken part needs to be replaced so that the it is more reliable and will last longer. They will also replace the transmission fluid to make sure the parts are well lubricated.

Look into gearbox repairs if your car does not have the same pickup it used to. If the engine appears to be racing, but your gears are not changing, there may be transmission problems. Look into repairing the existing gearbox, replacing the gearbox with a new one, or replacing it with a rebuilt gearbox. Rebuilt parts are often more cost-effective. Look at all of the possibilities and discuss them with your mechanic before you make a decision.

Cover It Up: Why It’s Important to Protect Your Car With Car Seat Covers

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

People who buy cars of any sort are usually concerned about how to maintain their appearance after they get it out on the road. There are a lot of hazards that come just simply from driving and parking your car outside on a regular basis. It makes sense, then, that most peoples’ concerns are about keeping the exterior of their car looking shiny and new. There’s another element that needs to be considered, however.

The exterior might be what most owners and car admirers focus on, but you should also consider how you plan to keep your car’s interior clean too. Car owners are the primary observers of what goes on within a car’s interior and how it ultimately looks. Regular commuters probably already know about the myriad of messes that can be made within a car’s interior.

What is the likelihood that you’ll be able to go through every single morning without managing to spill even just a drop or two onto a car seat, if you enjoy coffee, for example? If you’re rushing, the odds are probably not high that you’ll avoid doing this. You’ll likely end up needing to dump the remains of a fast food run onto the backseat of your car in lieu of actually throwing it out immediately, if you ever go out to grab fast food on the rush. As though it’s tissue paper, grease can soak through paper bags. Three guesses where all that grease will end up if you throw a bag onto your car’s backseat.

You should consider car seat covers as an option to address this issue. Car seat covers come in many different fabric choices, all of which effectively combat wear and tear and ensure your car seat covers underneath remain nice and clean. If you’re ever considering reselling your car in the future, car seat covers are a definite lifesaver, as your chances of having to reupholster your car seats after using them is much lower. And for those with more eclectic tastes, seat covers will fit right into your life quite easily. With car seat covers, polka dots and zebra stripes are just some of your pattern options. You can choose whatever you like.

So, consider just how much less it would cost you in time and effort to clean your seats if they’ve already been covered up the next time you consider grabbing coffee or some fast food for lunch. You can’t really go wrong with car seat covers for someone with an on-the-go lifestyle.

Satellite Radio: Why Is It So Popular?

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

The modern entertainment world is awash with ways of and goods for using up our spare time and at the same time filling our brains with mindless trivia and advertising junk messages. In between the programmes and the music, the message is ‘buy, buy, buy; from me, me, me’. This is one of the reasons why satellite radio has become so popular, but I will come back to that later.

One of the major reasons why people like satellite radio is because if you drive fairly long distances, you do not keep getting out of range of the station it took you ten minutes to find and look for another one.

Satellite radio stations tend to have a large to very large footprint. In other words, you ought to be able to keep listening to the same station if you want without continuously retuning.

Not only that, but satellite radio is always digital in nature which means that the signal will be better and the ensuing sound quality will be far better too. This means that the background noise that we have been conventionally used to has virtually disappeared.

The sound from a decent piece of digital stereo equipment is second to none. In reality an AF /FM radio cannot hold a candle to a satellite radio station.

The cost of satellite radio gear has fallen spectacularly, which has increased its public awareness and uptake, which in turn has improved sales and allowed the price to fall further. These days, a satellite radio receiver is as cheap as chips.

Not only that, but in the early days, in the Seventies and Eighties, parabolic dishes needed to be extremely directional. They had to be trained on the satellite as a satellite TV dish still has to be now, but a radio system does not have to be so accurate anymore, which allows them to be used in cars and boats.

If you get tired of the adverts that constantly drone out of terrestrial radio at you, it can be a good idea to find a satellite radio channel that suits you and subscribe to it. For $10-12 a month, you will get the kind of programming that you prefer without all the ads!. Isn’t that wonderful?

As with all forms of entertainment, at the end of the day it is up to the end user to decide whether the cost of satellite radio is justified, but one thing is for certain, satellite radio increases one’s choices.

If you are bored with the present choice of radio stations in your area then the thousands of extra, often world-wide stations available to you on satellite radio may be just the thing that you are looking for, particularly if you are looking for a station in a foreign language that is not covered locally.

How To Change The Oil In Your Automobile

Friday, April 15th, 2011

You can safely change the oil in your car or automobile. With just a few easy simple steps I will explain how to change the oil your self in your car and save yourself money and frustration taking it to a shop. You just need some basic tools like a wrench,a pan to catch the oil, and a pair of jacks stands to safely support the vehicle while you’re working underneath it. You should have all the tools necessary to change the oil in your car automobile handy and ready to go before you start the steps.

Before you begin changing the oil in your car you should make sure that you have all your proper equipment and that you follow the simple steps that I’m going to tell you. Raise the car with a jack stand and carefully support the car with the two jack stands one on each side of the frame. This way you can be sure if the car is supported by Jack stands that it will be safe to work underneath it to change the oil. Make sure you also have the proper tools needed for the job before you begin to put the car up on jack stands.

Now that you have the car safely supported with Jack stands on both sides of the frame you can now proceed to loosen the oil drain pan plug with your wrench or socket. Make sure you have a large pan underneath the oil pan to catch the oil as it comes out of the oil pan once you take the plug out. Let all the oil drain out of the pan till no more oil comes out the drain hole, once this is done you can screw back in the oil drain pan plug and tighten it with your wrench.

Once the oil has been drained out of the pan you can now proceed to loosen the oil filter located underneath your car with the oil filter wrench loosen this till it comes off the vehicle. Make sure you have a large pan underneath this to catch any oil that may spill out of the filter. Once the old filter has been taken off the car you can now screw on the new filter in its place.

Now that the previous steps have been done you can safely lower the vehicle off of the Jack Stand back to its original position. Now you can take the oil filler cap off of the engine and you can fill the correct amount of fluid into your engine to bring it to the full level. The amount needed to fill your engine oil to its full capacity should be available inside your owners manual or your local automotive shop should be able to tell you how many quarts of new fresh oil you will need to fill it to the full mark. When finished always make sure to reinstall the oil filler cap so there are no Leaks from the Engine.

After you have completed the above steps and you have filled your automobile with the correct amount of oil you can now place your oil cap Back onto the engine and secure it tightly. Now that this is done you can safely start the automobile let it run for a minute and then shut it off. You now can check the low oil level in the car by pulling out the oil level dipstick wiping it off with a rag or old towel pushing it back in the dipstick and pulling it back out this will give you a level reading of how much oil is in the car. Always check underneath the car and inside engine compartment for any oil leaks that may arise from you changing the oil if something is leaking you need to make an adjustment and tighten the screw or tighten the oil filter.

Now that we have finished changing oil in your car you can see that it’s not hard to do and it can save you a lot of money and frustration to know you did the job right. If you follow these simple steps that I’ve mentioned you can safely and correctly change the oil in your vehicle and have a piece of mind knowing that you did it right and also that you saved yourself time and money.

The Top Luxury Car Brands

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

It’s truly a joy and a real treat in order to drive a luxury vehicle that has been built and engineered to be the best in its class. Some people like to say that “Money Can’t Buy Happiness” but I would have to sincerely disagree! It’s hard not to feel excitement when cruising down the freeway in a car with a cockpit fancy enough for the Queen of England while you savor the heavenly roar of an eight cylinder or even better yet a 12 cylinder engine. Here is a list of the top luxury car brands in the automotive market.

Mercedes Benz- Most people immediately associate the name Mercedes as a prestige brand. It has been voted to be the highest quality and most prestigious brand by consumers in numerous studies. The German company has infused new energy into its lineup with a new look for its 2011 E Class trim, which is now a lot bolder and sportier. The classic double headlights gone and replaced with sleeker angular set. It is interesting to not that even though the brand is considered to be luxurious in the States, many older C-class models are driven as taxi cabs in Europe. This proves how durable the Benz engine are since some of the taxi’s have approached miles in the six figure range! Many of today’s young Hollywood starlets choose to drive a Mercedes Benz; Britney Spears has been often seen tearing up the streets in Hollywood in her white Mercedes SL65 while Lindsay Lohan has been involved in an infamous car crash in her black SL65. This is proof that the brand appeals to the young and old alike. The brand is a classic; no matter whether you’re wearing designer skinny jeans or a cocktail dress, you will always look like a million dollars stepping out of a Mercedes.

BMW- The slogan for BMW’ cars is that they are “The Ultimate Driving Machine” and rightfully so. The difference between BMW and Benz is that the first is engineered to be performance oriented while the latter is aimed towards driver and passenger comfort. BMW’s usually come with a very robust engine and a stiff suspension. The brand is appealing to younger consumers while Mercedes has more appeal to more established professionals. The best selling line for the German brand is the 3-series line, which offers superior performance, handling and power at a competitive price in the entry-level market. The 335 model comes with an engine that puts out an immense 300 HP and 300 lb feet of torque. My personal favorite has to be the top of the line 7 Series, which oozes power and class; the 2010 model boasts a eight cylinder engine with 400 HP.

Aston Martin – This brand British bland evokes a touch of sophisticated Old World sophistication and European glamour. I can easily imagine a handsome James Bond emerging out of a sleek black V12 Vantage in a tailored Armani suit. Winners in the Aston Martin line include the Vantage V12 (which offers an impressive twelve cylinders for top power!) and the new V8 Vantage N420 roadster which is a fast and gorgeous convertible with beautiful curves, smooth fluid lines and a total of 420 horsepower.

Infiniti – Infiniti’s parent company is Japanese auto company Nissan’s luxury division. The brand is a newcomer when compared with the more established German players but it’s already a solid player in the luxury segment thanks to its gorgeous and high performance cars. The manufacturer is noted for its high performance IPL line which is a more reasonably priced alternative to Benz’s AMG line and the M3 series from BMW. The advantage of an Infiniti vehicle is that its service and repair costs tend to be typically much cheaper than its German competitors, which can be extremely pricey. Overall, Infiniti is a lot more competitively priced when compared with BMW and Benz. A favorite for me is the powerful and sleek M56 which boasts a powerful eight cylinder engine and 420 HP, with the AWD model starting at around the sixty thousand dollar range.

A Minivan With A Healthy Dose Of Power – The 2010 Odyssey

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Minivans are great for families; they are spacious and designed to be practical for every day use. The 2010 Honda Odyssey is a solid example of an efficient minivan. It encompasses all of the qualities that the Japanese car maker is known for; practicality, functionality and efficiency. It’s ideal if you have a large family or drive a large number of people around on a frequent basis. A few of the models come with a power tailgate installed which makes unloading items a cinch. Four trims are available for this auto; the LX, EX, EX-L and the Touring version.

What stands out about the Odyssey is its engine, which is very powerful for a minivan. It is a 3.5 Ltr with a total output of 244 hp and 240 lb feet of torque. In fact, the engine is the most powerful in its class. In terms of fuel economy this vehicle gets 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the freeway, which is pretty good considering this car can haul around 8 people. This minivan handles exceptionally well, it drives and feels just like a regular car out on the road.

High quality materials have been used throughout the interior. The cabin has designed to be well insulated and stays quiet even at fast speeds. The drivers site can be adjusted via power in ten different ways. If you choose to purchase Honda’s satellite linked navigation system, you also get Sony’s nifty “Song By Voice” which allows you to change your music by simply stating commands.

The seats can be folded back if you need more room and there are a total of three rows of seating in total. Standard features include an AC system, power windows and a telescopic steering wheel. There is an optional navigation system available can be directed by using voice commands and it has the ability to provide restaurant reviews and menus as well as the regular turn by turn directions.

The Odyssey was designed with safety foremost. The ABS braking mechanism functions with the electronic brake distribution system in order to help to maintain control when the brakes are suddenly pressed. Active head restraints protect the neck and help to prevent whiplash during a collision. Vehicle Stability Assist corrects understeer and oversteer. There is even an optional camera available which is very helpful when you’re trying to back out of a space or parallel park in a tight spot. Since tires are a crucial element to safety, a tire pressure monitoring mechanism is in place which lets you know when your tires aren’t up to par.

If you have a large family and need an affordable and reliable minivan, the Odyssey could be a good match. The Odyssey has the most powerful engine in the minivan segment and it also offers cool features like Honda’s “Song By Voice”. The cost of the base model is around twenty four thousand dollars; a competitive price for a minivan with the most power in its class.
