Cottage Rentals in The Country

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Most people look forward to going away on holiday and a lot of people like to make intricate plans and bookings. After all you frequently have to make allowances for flights and hotels. However, there can also be car, tour and bicycle bookings too, depending on the type of holiday you want.

Instead of a hotel, you might want to think about hiring a private cottage. Cottage rentals are a good alternative to a hotel or guest house. In general, cottage holidays are self-catering, so you would have to be ready to put in a little more work than if you went on an all-inclusive hotel stay. A small cottage on the coast in a secluded location would suit many people, but a vacation cottage on the coast might be better for others.

If you pick the right location, you can have whatever sort of cottage you want. Go to the coast if you like sailing or snorkeling. A seaside resort location would offer more night life probably. If you want a quieter fishing vacation with canoing or boating, a quiet lakeside hideaway would be more fitting. Then there are mountain huts and several other degrees of solitude and nightlife too.

If you would like to visit museums and other touristic sights, you should select a location near an appropriate city. It just requires a little forward preparation and thought.

We live in Wales and there are thousands of rental cottages of all types in all manner of locations. If you have a big family, you could hire several cottages close to each there and live in a kind of old fashioned community. There are also modern camps like ‘Center Parcs’ which have hundreds of very modern cottages in small groups of four or five so that families or friends can stay in a group together.

These modern cottages are very plush, with Jacuzzis, swirl baths, large flat screen televisions and all manner of entertainment equipment and satellite TV. The cottages are set in acres of woodland and wildlife is everywhere. There are deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels and dozens of types of birds including kingfishers, geese, ducks and swans.

The swimming pools are completely heated and go inside and outside into the woods, so that even in the middle of winter you remain warm. There is also archery, boating and hiking with many courses of differing hardship to follow. It is great to walk in the woods knowing that you cannot get lost with animals around every corner.

The wildlife is used to human company, so much or it is not scared and they come right up to you if you stop for a picnic. These holidays are not so cheap as going to a self-catering private vacation, but they are safe, especially for young families.

You can find cottage rentals through a travel agent, but you can also find them by looking in your local newspaper. These are some of the best finds because the cottages might be only a few hours drive away, but that is far enough to make a big difference. You do not really need to get on a plane to have a great vacation with a difference.

Millennium Prophesies

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

A lot of people predicted that the start of the new Millennium, the year 2000 would be the date of the apocalypse. However, fortunately, they were very wide of the mark.

What is it that makes people to attempt to predict disasters? Is it because they are attempting to warn people or because they wish to scare people? Frighten people, I think and thereby gain advantage over the naive.

These apocalyptic predictions go back thousands of years and even appear in the Bible. Their only raison d’etre is to frighten people and so gain money, power and influence over them.

Even the millennium bug turned out not to be a problem with computers functioning perfectly well after midnight in spite of claims by ‘computer experts’ that there would be a worldwide crash of stupendous importance. The computer industry made a fortune out of frightening businesses and individuals with their deceit. That was the scam of the Nineties to end all swindles!

So why all the hype? Was it just the arrival of a new millennium, which gave rise to so many to make predictions on this date rather than stick to their usual common sense? Yes, I think. People saw the chance of a lifetime to rip others off and they jumped at it.

Needless to say there were hundreds of predictions made ranging from the arrival of aliens and the Second Coming of Christ to airplane crashes. None of which came true. Here are a few of those less than precise predictions:

May 5th was the day upon which all the planets lined up. The prediction was that the gravitational force of all these heavenly bodies in alignment would cause massive earthquakes, huge tides and volcanic eruptions.

A lot of people also prophesied that the shifting of the poles would occur during 2000 and that this would cause disastrous events such as high tides, widespread electrical failure and computer failures, which would mean economic disaster for the larger countries and insurance firms.

I do not know what you think, but perhaps instead of worrying about the end of the world (most doom-mongers have settled on the year 2012 for the destruction of the world) we should work together to make the best of the time we have left on this planet, as well as ensuring that we pass the planet on to the next generation in the same condition as we received it.

If we act in this way, we may hold off the apocalypse for a long while yet. We are far more likely to suffer apocalypse through nuclear war, global warming and events which are preventable and within our control, than cosmic events which we have little control over such as asteroids or the Sun’s turning into a red dwarf and eventually exploding.

Why Should I Quit Smoking?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Giving up an addiction which you’ve had most of your life can be extremely difficult. Many smokers who want to quit their unhealthy habit hesitate because they feel that it’s too late or it’s too hard for them to stop. Fortunately this is not true. It’s never too late to change a bad habit.

The whole process of quitting smoking will probably take a long time and will require determination and courage by the smoker. Although at first it may be painfull to step away from being addicted to nicotine, as a smoker who wants to stop, it is best to focus on the benefits of quitting smoking that you will get.

It’s a well-known fact that smoking is the cause of many different kinds of cancers and illnesses. Doctors say that each time a person smokes a cigarette, he or she is losing part of their life time, fitness, money and also esteem. We live in a world of many anti-smoking agencies trying to ban smoking that smokers are generally not seen in a favourable light. So why not consider the benefits of quitting smoking and dump your addiction instead of losing everything for the sake of a cigarette?

As they say, ‘health is wealth’ and one of the biggest benefits of quitting smoking is improved health. It really does not matter if you’ve smoked for a couple of years or have been a chain smoker for 30 years. What does matter is that you have decided to quit and starting from that day, you will live a richer life with fewer illnesses and less time in a doctor’s surgery.

The benefits of stopping smoking are not only an increased health and an increase in life expectancy, but it can also have a positive effect on social life – you will have more friends and more (self) respect. When a smoker quits this deadly addiction he or she will run less risk of developing cancer or heart disease and it will also mean that the ex-smoker will breathe fresher air instead of air polluted with cigarette smoke, which will mean far less coughing and wheezing.

The benefits of stopping smoking are almost boundless. For example, smoking can have an adverse effect on sexual health, dumping the habit would mean an increase in fertility rate. Moreover, unlike previously, you’ll have whiter teeth, fresher breath and a higher energy level. Furthermore, family and friends will have fresh air to breathe at last. Another benefit is the savings in your purse. Cigarettes are very costly, so, quitting smoking would mean that the money that was spent on cigarettes could be used for other good causes like as treating yourself to a little bit of what you fancy.

The benefits of giving up smoking are indeed many and the advantages of smoking are yet to be uncovered. Sure, it brings in a lot of tax revenue and keeps a group of people in gainful employment, but then smokers also take more time off sick and spend more time at the doctor’s than their non-smoking colleagues. Smokers reply that it calms their nerves, but so would other relaxation techniques such as yoga even sitting down. Let’s face it, public mood has swung far against smoking with smokers more often than not being vilified and pitied these days. Smokers also look rather pathetic nipping out of the office, restaurant or pub for a cigarette every hour or so, don’t they?

How To Get Natural Weight Loss To Kick In

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The most famous or notorious country in the world for overweight and obese people is the United States of America. Regrettably, it has become one of the things that tourists first talk about, when they get back from a holiday in the USA.

For instance, my father was a Second World War teenager and had always wanted to go to America. It was the first thing he did when he retired. Three months travelling wherever he could think of by bus and when he came back he was full of tales about whom he had met and what he had seen. but he could not hide his amazement about how many really fat people there were there.

I believe the organizations who say that this is largely to do with Americans’ love of hamburgers, pizzas and doughnuts; foodstuffs that have only recently become popular in Europe. Great Britain was the first country to follow the American lead, as you would imagine, because it was easier for the advertisers, both countries speaking English.

Sure enough, Britons are becoming obese at an disturbing rate too. Those adverts and trends are also visible in mainland Europe, but at least there are enough warnings now. Anybody who falls for into the junk food trap these days, only has himself to blame. We have been warned.

I now travel a lot in Asia and it is a crying shame to see rehashes of old adverts promoting junk food. For example, Thai food is one of the best in the world, yet Knorr is trying to persuade family cooks that they do not have time to make sauces or soups; that they should tip the salty contents of one of their boxes into boiling water and that nobody would know.

I can assure you that they would know where I live. However, firms like Knorr know, that if they can sabotage one generation then they have won. Likewise with McDonald’s, get one generation of parents to take their kids there every week and it becomes a family tradition. Bang! They are in!

I saw it happen in the UK and it is so hard to see it happening in Asia too.

If you want to learn the secret of losing weight naturally, I will tell you. The best of all methods is to only eat food that you have prepared yourself. There you are, easy! Or at least easily said. We can moderate that rule if necessary, to include food that has been prepared by people with your interests at heart, people who love you. You can also include good quality restaurants, but that is just about the limit.

Do not eat potato crisps or chips, shop-bought biscuits, cakes, pies, pasties, hamburgers or sandwiches. If you long for that stuff, then get up and cook it yourself! This is how to lose weight naturally. It is called eating well and people used to do it naturally because in those days, there were no fast food stores and people took home made sandwiches and salads to work or school.

Choosing A Wedding Dress

Monday, March 29th, 2010

The wedding dress is just about the most important item in the wedding ceremony apart from the vows and the rings. The bride wants to look her best and the groom wants to look his best too. A gorgeous wedding dress will help the bride’s aspiration to look dazzling come true.

Therefore, it is important to pick the wedding dress with care, as every bride knows. However, there are a few items that are not as clear as the wedding dress just looking beautiful and we will list the most important of these below.

Besides individual taste in fashion, the most important consideration has to be the time of the year. Which season are you going to get married in? What temperature is it likely to be? Could it rain? If it is likely to be cold, you ought to wear a heavier cloth than if it is likely to be hot. You might also permit the season to have an influence on the colours you wear, but that is a matter of personal taste. For example, winter colours might be slightly darker than summer colours.

Another vital factor when choosing the colour of the wedding dress is the skin colouration of the bride. This consideration is also true of the accessories. The bride will also need a head-dress, a veil, gloves and a bouquet, all of which should compliment the wedding dress and the bride’s hair and skin colouration.

Try to get a wedding dress that fits perfectly. This sounds obvious, but it is easy to think that you can make minor changes yourself later on. However, making alterations is not as easy as it sounds and you could end up making matters worse rather than better. In any case, you do not want to be worrying that a stitch you made will break or come undone at the wrong moment. It is far better to get a good fitting wedding dress than to get the precise colour that you want.

It is important to bear in mind the quality of the picture of the wedding dress, if you are buying or hiring from a catalogue or website. You also should leave plenty of time to be able to return the dress if you have to. The fact is that photos are not always true to life and packers do make mistakes, so if your selection is not what you expected, when it arrives, you will need to have a couple of weeks to return it and receive a new one. Allow at least three weeks for the switch over; longer if possible.

White has always been the most popular colour for first time brides, but it is not a rule. Off-white or pastel shades look very good too and they will set you aside from the norm. Apple white or blush pink are very effective colours for a wedding dress, but as I said before, everything should be colour co-ordinated with the colour of the bride’s skin and hair and the bouquet, if you are dead set on carrying a certain bouquet of flowers, like, say, gardenias.

How Do You Take A Psychic Abilities Quiz?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

There are two types of psychic abilities quiz. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but which one is right for you? Read on to find out.

This first type of quiz relies on an examiner transmitting an image of a card to a test subject. It has classically been used in esp experiments for over 40 years. Traditionally there have been five types of symbol (square, circle, wave, horizontal cross and star); newer card decks have up to 11 different types.

With advances in computer and internet software this type of test is now available on the internet in several places. There is a real problem with this test, especially the internet-based ones. This type of psychic abilities quiz only really tests for clairvoyance – whether you can “see” the future. But there are many types of psychic ability – the power to move objects (telekinesis), the ability to receive psychic messages by hearing (clairaudience), the ability to strongly connect to others and receive subtle information through feeling or touch (clairsentience or psychometry) and several others.

The second type of test relies on identifying certain personal traits and experiences that might predict the presence of psychic ability. The main disadvantage of this type of test is that some people claim that it is not scientific. And I guess that’s true – it doesn’t give you a definite score or a yes / no answer. But as I see it, psychic abilities are neither black and white, nor can they be adequately assessed by scientific means. So this type of test is a qualitative (as opposed to quantitative) type in scientific jargon. Or in other words, this type of psychic abilities quiz is a right-brained test.

Self-knowledge, meditation and contemplation are important tools for psychic advancement. A questionnaire-style psychic abilities quiz accesses your intuition and inner guidance to help you decide if you are psychic, and what type(s) of psychic ability you might have. So when you are doing one of these tests, it is important to answer the questions as honestly as you can so that you get an accurate answer. The best quizzes also can show you what types of psychic ability you might have, and give you information on how to develop your psychic abilities further.

Summary Points *Two types of psychic test. *One is card-based but mainly identifies clairvoyant ability. *The other is questionnaire-based and is able to identify a wide range of psychic ability types and grades.

Headache Medicine

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Usually when people feel a headache coming on, they start searching for a medication that can prevent their headache from becoming much worse. As there are so many different types of headache treatment to choose from, people have to think about what they want the treatment to do.

The headache medications that are found at the supermarkets and pharmacies come in many forms. You will find that there are tablets that you can swallow, other types of tablets that dissolve under your tongue, nasal sprays, suppositories, and injections that you administer. All of these headache medicine are known to work well at preventing your headache from becoming worse.

When you reach for headache medication on a supermarket shelf, one of the deciding factors is how fast-acting you want the drug to be. We are generally used to taking pills and capsules to cure whatever ailments we have. We take these types of treatments because they are easy to take and easy to carry around with us.

Although these types of headache medication do work for most people, it takes some time for the treatment to take effect. For this reason any person who has a severe type of headache like a migraine, will not benefit from these tablets or capsules. Also the various fast-developing headaches will not do well either with these medications.

A person who has a tension type headache, a slow-acting migraine attack or a migraine attack without nausea and vomiting, can use these tablets. There are tablets that you can take that are absorbed more quickly into your bloodstream. These so-called ‘sub-lingual’ tablets or lozenges are placed under the tongue, where they get absorbed by the membrane that lines the mouth. These types of headache medicine work somewhat more quickly than the usual tablets as they are absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

The other way that you can stop your headache is with a nasal spray. These sprays provide you with quick-acting relief. They are good for headache sufferers who need fast relief and they are also good for people who have the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. You may have to test various brands before you get satisfactory results, but these headache medicines are still quite good.

The best possible pain relief can be had quickly from self injected drugs. However, if you take this sort headache medication you will have to take extra care at first, so that you don’t inject yourself with too much of the headache medication.

Another consideration is whether you can endure the discomfort that you may first feel when you try to inject yourself. The possible embarrassment about injecting yourself in public with your headache medication is also something that you will need to consider.

There is a huge amount of headache treatment for those who are looking for ways to stop their headaches. The best way to find an efficacious medicine is to test several items in order to see what works best for you.

Choreographed Moves In Wrestling

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Wrestling moves are tricky, since if you are not paying close attention, you could believe that the moves are real. At the moment, I am still a little reluctant to fill you in on the moves, since I am not a wrestling fan, however my son is, and he is going to give us the inside information on wrestling moves to help us see it for what it is, false.

For instance, one of the oldest moves is the ‘banana splits’, although, these days, the move is now famous as the ‘leg splits’. This move involves the one wrestler putting both hands on the legs of the other wrestler and pushing the legs apart as far as they will stretch. This move will force the wrestler to push his/her own shoulders to the mat. If the wrestling move were genuine and the wrestler failed to give in, his/her legs would rip some muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc.

The ‘Cobra Clutch’ is yet another of the holds that would in reality cause real agony. The cobra move is universally recognizable as the cross chokes or arm locks. The challenging wrestler will come from the back of the other fighter and using a single arm in the “Nelson Hold”. The opponent will then use an arm to tug the wrestler’s arm trying to prevent him from pulling across the neckline and choking him as a result. The back clutch, or bombard is a similar move, but the challenging wrestler is on his back under his opponent extending his arms upward from behind.

The ‘Rock Bottom’ moves entail the adversary pulling his opponents arm over his shoulder. The wrestler then places the opponents arm over his/her shoulder and lifts and dives forward onto the mat. During this attack, the challenger is hitting the mat head first, which if actually executed, would break some bones, or else cause some serious pain.

The ‘Choke Slam’ involves the attacker placing a hand on the opponent, gripping him and then lifting his arm close by his opposite side, over his shoulder. Then he lifts the opponent and slams him to the mat.

The ‘Big Boot’ is a running attack. The wrestler kicks up his boot, connecting with the face of his opponent. So, a boot in the face, in other words! This would definitely put a person on his/her rear any time, causing the kicked person to feel severe giddiness for a short time.

What makes wrestling so exciting is the phoney dialogue, the outfits, the characters and the moves. If you think of the movie Superman, and how he dresses, you will see that without his outfit he wouldn’t have any character appeal as Superman. Likewise, the wrestlers wear outfits that make them appear as though they are super heroes of the ring, indicting the villains. Each wrestler has his/her role in the ring. It is usually quite placid, but made to look violent!

Wrestling has rules, as well as restrictions, even though the moves are all fake. Wrestlers must respect the ropes of the ring, as well as the colour codes in the ring. There are also styles of wrestling, which include the folk style, freestyle and Greco Romanian styles.

Each of the styles has its own set of rules, although the freestyle and folk style are somewhat similar. Usually, the styles are enacted so well that you wouldn’t know which style the wrestlers are using.

As with a script, most of the moves are composed and rehearsed, which means that a director is off camera using his/her hands to direct the wrestlers in the rings. For the most part, wrestling is nothing more than an act with a few exemptions like when the KAYFABE brakes down, when a real fight can break out. The KAYFABE is wrestling’s means of verbal communication.

Do you have an interest in wrestling? If you want to learn loads about the moves, the stars and the show, come to our website and catch up on wrestling revealed.

What Is Teeth Whitening?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Your teeth are a very important part of your appearance. Teeth whitening facilities realize this fact, which is why they are encouraging people to whiten their teeth so that they can look their best and so that others will find their whole appearance more pleasing.

Whitening your teeth can also enhance your self esteem. Have you ever noticed those people who smile a lot even to total strangers? Notice how easily they radiate warmth just by giving that Hollywood smile. Sometimes, that smile becomes so contagious that you find yourself smiling and feeling better for the rest of the day on.

This is the reason why you have to perfect that smile so you can do it more often. One way of perfecting it is by whitening your teeth. In today’s world where beauty products and facial makeovers are rampant, you see a lot of beautiful people. What you will always notice is the colour of their teeth.

You probably think that they are very fortunate to have been born with beautiful white teeth like that, but what you do not realize is that those teeth are the result of the whitening products and procedures that are available on the market today.

Over-the-counter teeth whitening products are not as expensive as they used to be. This is probably because of the stiff competition out in the market. With so many new products appearing almost everyday, it is no wonder that the prices are going down.

Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Are your teeth as white as they used to be? Do you feel that they could be made still whiter? Are you one of those people that would benefit from having their teeth whitened?

To answer this question, consider this:

1. Methods for teeth whitening. The methods used for teeth whitening are on a case-to-case basis. For every individual, there is a method that will suit their different needs. You can choose veneers instead of bleaching or teeth whitening. The best thing to do is to consult your dentist first about what you should do. Your dentist will be able to tell you what will be perfect for your needs.

2. Smokers and Caffeine-Addicts. If you are one of those who like to take caffeinated drinks, then you are probably a candidate for teeth whitening. This is the same for persons who smoke a lot. The ingredients in caffeinated drinks can discolour your teeth if you have been drinking caffeine for a long time. Tar and nicotine can also discolour teeth quickly.

By having your teeth whitened or by using whitening toothpaste every day, you can lessen the effects that these items will have on your teeth. Continued, regular use will definitely help delay the quick discoloration of your teeth.

3. Sensitive teeth and gums. Your teeth and gums might not be able to withstand the chemical contents of whitening products. If you think you have sensitive teeth, it is best to delay using whitening products until you have seen your dentist first.

If you have a sensitive mouth, but you are still adamant about having your teeth whitened, then you had better go for one of the professional treatments. Do not take the risk of trying one of the products that you can buy over the counter.

Once you have considered all these aspects, then you will have a better idea if you are ready for that teeth whitening procedure. When it comes to your well being, it is always better to be safe than to be sorry.

Tennis Basics

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

I trust that this, my first literary work will be found useful by both novices and experts alike in the tennis world. I am striving to arouse interest in the student of the game of tennis by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I hope will shed a new light on the sport of tennis.

I will turn to the novice in my opening and speak of certain matters which are second nature to the skilled player. The best tennis equipment is not a lot of good for the beginner even if he really is trying to succeed. However, one has to buy good quality; it is a saving in the end, as good quality material far outlasts poor quality gear.

It is vital always to wear tennis apparel when playing tennis. The question of selecting a tennis racquet is a much more serious decision. I do not like to force a certain brand of racquet upon any player, since all the famous makes are of excellent quality. However, the weight, balance, and size of the handle are the really important considerations when choosing a racquet frame, while good stringing is essential to get optimum results.

After having acquired your racquet, make a firm decision to buy only quality tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is of no use at all. If you really want to succeed at tennis and progress rapidly, I strongly advise you to watch all the good tennis you can. Observe the play of the best players and try to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction manuals you can get your hands on. They are a great help.

More tennis can be picked up off the court, in the study of theory, and in watching the best players in action, than can ever be learned in actual play. I do not mean miss opportunities to play tennis. Far from it. Play whenever possible, but try when playing to put in practice the theories you have read or the strokes you have watched.

Do not allow yourself to become discouraged by lack of progress. The method of playing some stroke you have worked on for weeks in vain, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the result of hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you dividends all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town.

The fellowship of tennis is universal, since none but an athletic sportsman can succeed in the game for any lengthy period of time. Tennis provides relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the person who is tied hard to his business until late afternoon.

The order of development that produces the quickest and most lasting results is: a. Concentration on the game. b. Keep the eye on the ball. c. Foot-work and weight-control. d. Strokes. e. Court position. f. Court generalship or match play. g. Tennis psychology.

Concentration. Tennis is played first with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique invented will not suffice if the directing mind is wandering. There are many causes of a wandering mind in a tennis match. The chief one is loss of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any hope of real success unless he cares sufficiently about the game to be willing to do the drudgery necessary to learn the game properly.

Jack it in right now if you are not willing to work very hard. The weather, conditions of play or the murmurs in the gallery often bewilder even very experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete and utter concentration on the game is the only cure for an erring mind, and the sooner that lesson is learned the more rapid the improvement of the player.

The best way to keep a game in mind is to play for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, finally, every shot in the point. A set is merely a collection of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the ultimate victor.
